Ruby's First Sports Day!

If you saw Sunday's photo, you might have guessed that last week was Ruby's very 1st school sports day. I have to put my hands up and admit that I really was not feeling the love for it, Ruby loves the outdoors but isn't interested in sport and neither am I. I think hubbie saw it as a massive achievement as he requested to work from home for the afternoon.

Ruby took part in three races, one of which was a straight running race in which she came 2nd, next was a race to get through three hoops and sprint to the finishing line, she came 2nd in this too, and finally she took part in a team relay.

It actually turned out to be a lovely day, the sun was shinning and I had come prepared with a picnic lunch. It was great to watch Ruby taking part in the various different races, but what really touched my heart on that day was a little boy in Ruby's class who is disabled, he took part in all of the races and the smile and grin on his face throughout was amazing, everyone was cheering for him to finish. In one particular race he saw his mum and raced over to her, I witnessed a very proud mummy moment, I had to wipe the tears from my eyes.

  2. We've just had our sports day. They've changed venue, so even more races. I love how everyone gets involved and the children genuinely seem to enjoy it. No long faces. A few ex-pupils came back to help, as they'd finished their GCSEs. I remember seeing them run in our first sports day. #CountryKids

  5. We love sports day more for the fun than who actually wins. Our school has a silly race but there's always something to smile or cheer about in most of the races. Someone slips and perserveres and carries on and the entire school and spectators all cheer them on and there is a massive cheer and applause when they finish. It is a small school which may make the difference but it warms the heart. #countrykids

  6. I do love the schools sports day and sadly I have only two more left! Many a year I have proudly watched my children's and their enthusiasm in taking part. Well done to Ruby for coming 2nd - she must be very proud. Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.
