Water Fight!!!!!

The weather has been gloriously warm over the last few days and there is only thing that can be guaranteed to keep the little ones cool...... a good old fashioned water fight!

It does however become very competitive as I found out when I took Ruby and Lottie over to my mums to play with my brother Harry and my cousin Sol. Ruby, despite not bringing a change of clothes, was adamant that she wanted to be involved and quickly managed to get the hose pipe!

Lottie loved every minute of the water fight and ran between the fire of the water guns without a care in the word; at times she took cover under the trampoline, which I think was a very clever hiding place.

I think it's safe to say from looking at the photos they all had a really lovely time and thankfully my mum had bought Ruby an outfit for her birthday so she had it a little early so she could have dry clothes.

Baking Club - Fridge Cake

We were very fortunate that during the last few weeks of Ruby's school, all the children in the foundation stage were given the opportunity to take part in the 'Baking Club'. During Ruby's time at baking club she made some cakes, cookies and some very tasty fridge cake. I have to say the best thing that she made was the fridge cake and at Ruby's request I am sharing the recipe with you so that you can make it too.

Ingredients

 250g Digestive Biscuits
300g Milk Chocolate
100g Unsalted Butter
150g Golden Syrup
100g Dried Apricots
75g Raisins

Method

Put the Biscuits in a plastic bag and bash them with a rolling pin

Break up the chocolate into bits

Add the butter to the bowl of chocolate

Melt the butter and chocolate over a pan of simmering water, add in the golden syrup and stir well

Chop up the apricots and place them into a bowl with the raisins

Remove the bowl from the heat and add in the broken biscuits and fruit

Make sure you stir everything really well

Line a 20cm (8in) tin with cling film and place the mixture into the tin

Use a potato masher to press down the mixture into the tray

Set the cake in the fridge for 1-2 hours or overnight.

Remove from the fridge when set and cut into pieces and enjoy!

As the fridge cake was such a hit, Ruby decided that she would like to make some as thank you gifts for her teachers; I placed the fridge cake into a mug and wrapped it in cellophane and tied it all together with a bow. I was quite impressed with the end result.

Ruby's Fridge Cake has even appeared on BBC Radio Leicester...... twice!

Emotional Mummy - School Memory Book

People who know me well will know that I love to record memories, and it was for that very reason that I decided to start this blog so that all the wonderful memories of my girls can be recorded and also shared with friends and family too.

Tomorrow is Ruby's last day in foundation stage and it really has been such a pleasure to witness her grow in confidence with her learning in so many different ways, from her writing to her reading.

In order to mark Ruby finishing school, I decided, after seeing something similar done by someone in America, to create a memory book in which teachers can record comments and encouragment for Ruby for her to look back on in years to come.

I decided to put pen to paper and adapted a poem which I wrote at the start of the book:

Dear Teacher,

Very grateful to you I would be,
if you would please do this favour for me,
I started this gift when Ruby was small,
and I hope it’s complete by the time she is tall.

Each teacher who helps her along the way,
I hope will autograph – that is to say –
please add a note, a picture or song,
a special memory can never be wrong.

Please have a guess as to what she will do,
when she is older and as big as you,
a teacher perhaps, well who can say?
one thing’s for certain, she will remember her school days.

Thank you for taking the time to write in this book
I appreciate the valuable time that you took.
Ruby will love to read what you had to say,
when I present it to her on a special day.

I recieved Ruby's memory book back today and I cried reading what her teachers had said, it was just so lovely to read their comments. I am so proud of Ruby!

Ruby's First Sports Day!

If you saw Sunday's photo, you might have guessed that last week was Ruby's very 1st school sports day. I have to put my hands up and admit that I really was not feeling the love for it, Ruby loves the outdoors but isn't interested in sport and neither am I. I think hubbie saw it as a massive achievement as he requested to work from home for the afternoon.

Ruby took part in three races, one of which was a straight running race in which she came 2nd, next was a race to get through three hoops and sprint to the finishing line, she came 2nd in this too, and finally she took part in a team relay.

It actually turned out to be a lovely day, the sun was shinning and I had come prepared with a picnic lunch. It was great to watch Ruby taking part in the various different races, but what really touched my heart on that day was a little boy in Ruby's class who is disabled, he took part in all of the races and the smile and grin on his face throughout was amazing, everyone was cheering for him to finish. In one particular race he saw his mum and raced over to her, I witnessed a very proud mummy moment, I had to wipe the tears from my eyes.
